The highly anticipated Nothing Phone (2a) is set to make its grand entrance into the mid-range market very soon. Following its impressive debut at MWC 2024 and a special unboxing for a lucky fan, all eyes are now on the final details before the official launch.

Carl Pei and Nothing have truly mastered the art of building excitement for their upcoming products, and the Nothing Phone (2a) is no exception. This device has been a hot topic among smartphone enthusiasts, with leaks and speculations adding to the anticipation. But how exactly does a smartphone go from concept to the sleek design we all love?

In a recent interview with Wallpaper*, Nothing’s founder Carl Pei shared insights into the design and manufacturing process behind the phone. He mentioned that there were numerous prototypes that didn’t quite make the cut, each showcasing different materials and designs like curved screens and under-display cameras.

Interestingly, one of the rejected prototypes that had leaked earlier as the “final design” turned out to be just one of many options that didn’t make it to production. These prototypes, along with various backplates and cases, now reside in the “could’ve been” collection, offering a glimpse into what could have been.

Pei revealed that after careful consideration, Nothing opted for a high-density polycarbonate rear coated with a “triple anti-fingerprint coating,” ditching glass for durability. The midframe is crafted from recycled aluminum as part of Nothing’s commitment to sustainability.

The highly-anticipated Nothing Phone (2a) is slated for a full reveal on March 5th, followed by its release shortly after. While pricing details are still under wraps, it’s expected to offer competitive pricing in line with its mid-range positioning.

Stay tuned as we count down to the official launch of the Nothing Phone (2a) and prepare to witness innovation at its finest in the world of telecommunications!
