Google has recently unveiled the Pixel 9 Pro and teased its upcoming foldable, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, through a new video. This signals Google’s intention to expand the availability of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to more markets compared to its predecessor, which was limited to just four countries.
The original Pixel Fold was only sold in the US, the UK, Germany, and Japan. However, based on recent teasers on the Google Store, it seems like the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be reaching customers in 10 countries this time around. These countries include the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Germany, France, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan.
The second-generation foldable device is named the Pixel 9 Pro Fold instead of Pixel Fold 2 as previously anticipated. This new model is reported to be 2mm slimmer than its predecessor with thinner bezels and a less noticeable crease. Additionally, the inner selfie camera has been relocated to the corner of the screen for a more seamless look.
On the camera front, three out of five cameras on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold are rumored to have smaller sensors compared to last year’s model. The device is also expected to feature a 4,560mAh battery comprised of two packs – one with 1,183mAh and another with 3,377mAh – working together in a common setup for foldable phones.
The official debut of the Pixel 9 series is scheduled for the upcoming Made by Google event on August 13. This lineup will consist of four devices: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
It’s encouraging to see Google expanding availability for its next foldable device. With an increasingly competitive foldable phone market that includes players like Samsung, Xiaomi, Honor OnePlus and Huawei among others; widening availability is a strategic move by Google to remain competitive in this space.
