This innovative feature, unveiled at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, will allow users to live stream with 911 dispatchers and emergency responders during critical situations.
According to reports from 9to5Mac, RapidSOS and Prepared will be supporting Apple’s Emergency SOS Live Video, enabling users to video chat with dispatchers in real-time in case of an emergency or accident. This feature will help dispatchers and responders stay connected with individuals in need by accessing their location through live video streams.
Apple described the Emergency SOS Live Video feature as a way for users to share context through streaming video and recorded media during emergency calls. Participating emergency dispatchers can request users to share live video or media from their camera roll securely, facilitating quicker assistance during emergencies.
In addition to voice calls and text messages, Apple’s Emergency SOS Live Video feature can also send location data to responders. With Emergency SOS via Satellite, users can send texts and locations to emergency responders even without a cell signal, ensuring help is on the way when needed most.
RapidSOS has announced that its support for Emergency SOS Live Video will be a no-cost upgrade for its clients, making this essential safety feature accessible within RapidSOS Unite at no additional cost to ECCs.
Apple continues to prioritize user safety with its expanding range of emergency and safety features available on devices like iPhone 14 and iPhone 15. These include Crash Detection introduced in 2022, which is also accessible on Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and the second generation SE. Fall Detection was launched alongside the Apple Watch Series 4, further enhancing the safety capabilities of these devices.
