Emergency SOS via Satellite is a crucial feature that has already proven to be life-saving. Recent reports include the service helping rescue two men who were in a car crash on Vancouver Island in B.C. This feature allows users to send text messages to emergency services when they are off the grid, even without cellular or Wi-Fi service.
In addition, if an iPhone or Apple Watch detects a crash, fall, or if the user is unresponsive, an automatic notification can be sent to emergency services through Crash Detection or Fall Detection.
This essential service is available in Canada, the U.S., France, Germany, Australia, and other markets. When it was first introduced in 2022, Apple offered it for free for two years. Last year, they extended this offer for another year but have not yet announced any associated costs after that period.
