The Google I/O conference was recently held in Mountain View, and it was all about artificial intelligence. In fact, my colleague suggested that it should be renamed to Google AI – and I couldn’t agree more. The event showcased 120 minutes of AI innovations and advancements, leaving many of us at Phones Canada excited about the future of technology.
While some were hoping for a sneak peek at the Pixel 9 or a preview of Android 15, the focus was on AI, particularly the Gemini models (Nano, Pro, and Ultra) and their capabilities. The newly introduced Gemini Nano is set to revolutionize how we interact with our phones by offering multimodal capabilities. This means that our devices will not only process text input but also understand contextual information like sights, sounds, and spoken language.
One of the most exciting updates is the integration of Gemini Nano’s multimodal capabilities into TalkBack by 2024. This enhancement will provide richer descriptions for individuals with blindness or low vision, making it easier for them to navigate digital content independently.
Additionally, Circle to Search has been enhanced with new features such as full-screen translation and expanded availability on more Pixel and Samsung devices. Students can now use Circle to Search for step-by-step instructions on solving complex physics and math problems directly from their devices.
