Google Meet has just received a significant update that many users will find beneficial. The app now supports 52 languages for translated captions and has added 11 more languages for closed captions.
If you are a Google Workspace customer or simply have a personal account, you can take advantage of the expanded support for closed captioning. The following languages are now included in beta for closed captioning:
– Azerbaijani
– Czech
– Greek
– Icelandic
– Kazakh
– Lao
– Lithuanian
– Malay
– Serbian
– Swahili
– Ukrainian
This brings the total number of supported languages for closed captioning to 87, although some are still in beta testing. Moving on to translated captions, Google Meet now supports 52 languages. This feature is currently available only for Gemini customers using Google Workspace and can be translated to and from any other fully supported language.
Additionally, Google has announced full language support for six previously launched languages: Dutch, Indonesian, Japanese, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. With this update, Google Meet now fully supports 69 languages for translated captions, enabling over 4,600 language pairs.
Starting January 22, 2025, translated captions in Google Meet will be exclusively available to Gemini customers using Google Workspace. Until then, these captions will be accessible through Gemini add-ons such as Gemini Enterprise, AI Meetings and Messaging, and Gemini Education premium.
The new languages for closed captioning are now available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts at no additional cost. Stay tuned for more updates on how these features can enhance your virtual meetings!
