Apple is currently running a promotion in China, offering discounts of up to 2,300 yuan ($318) on selected iPhone models. This move comes in response to increasing competition from local rivals like Huawei in the high-end smartphone market.
The discount campaign, which runs from May 20 to May 28, offers more substantial discounts compared to Apple’s previous promotion in February. The highest discount of 2,300 yuan applies to the 1TB iPhone 15 Pro Max model, while other models also see significant price cuts. For example, the 128 GB version of the base iPhone 15 model is discounted by 1,400 yuan ($194).
Apple’s competitive pressure has intensified following Huawei’s introduction of its new high-end smartphones like the Pura 70 series. In February, Apple’s sales in China saw a recovery with a 12% increase in shipments after a sluggish start to the year.
In a similar scenario back in 2023, Chinese retailers offered deep discounts on iPhones, signaling a tough market for Apple. Discounts ranged from $100 to $205 on various iPhone models despite these efforts; iPhone sales still dropped by 30% in the first week of 2024 due to growing competition.
The rise of Huawei and its Mate series has impacted Apple’s market share in China. Despite ongoing challenges, Apple is striving to maintain its position through strategic pricing and promotional campaigns to attract customers amidst fierce competition.
