At Phones Canada, we are thrilled to share the exciting news about the latest feature introduced in Android 14. Announced at the Google I/O ’23 event, Android 14 brings a unique text-to-image wallpaper option for your phone. This feature is exclusively available on the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, which are known for their advanced AI capabilities.
To access this feature, navigate to the Wallpaper & Style section and select “Create a Wallpaper.” Pixel 8 owners (and eventually older Pixel models) will have two options to choose from: “with Emoji” and “with AI.” If you opt for “with AI,” you will be taken to a screen titled “Choose a theme to get started.” Here, you can select from various styles such as Classic Art, Soft Focus, Mystical Botanicals, Collage, Dark Theme, Mood, Unexpected Landscape, and more. Stay tuned as we update the list with additional styles.
Once you have chosen a theme, a generic wallpaper representing your selected style will appear on the screen. At the bottom of the screen, you will find an “Inspire Me” button (previously called Randomize at the Google I/O ’23 event). This button helps you overcome any creative blocks by generating a random image.
Just above the “Inspire Me” button, you’ll notice a field to input your prompt. Here, you can describe your desired image, and the Pixel 8 will bring it to life. It’s important to note that there are specific restrictions on the prompt’s format. Instead of a blank field, you’ll find a template that allows you to modify certain parts of the description. For example, you can request a “Lighthouse made of cotton in cream and orange.”
To provide a visual example, the article displays a photo. In the photo, the words “lighthouse,” “cotton,” and “cream and orange” are underlined with dots. Tapping on each of these words takes Pixel 8 users to a sub-menu where they can select different words related to objects, materials, and colors to further refine their imaginations.
After the AI-enhanced Tensor G3 processor performs its magic, you’ll be presented with several variations of the scene you requested, all in the chosen style. To finalize your selection, simply tap the “Check” bubble button at the top. This will set your personalized creation as your wallpaper. Additionally, there is a section called “Your AI Wallpapers” that stores the wallpapers you generate, allowing you to revisit and appreciate them later.
During the Google I/O ’23 event, it was emphasized that these wallpapers are designed to be unique to each user. While this feature may not offer the same level of customization as tools like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, it adds a fun and fresh dimension to the new Pixel line.
