The Galaxy S24 Ultra is a powerhouse of a phone, with its stunning screen, smooth performance, stellar support, amazing cameras, and AI features. However, even the best devices can have their quirks. In this case, some users have noticed that the S Pen stylus that comes with the phone has a peculiar burnt smell.
In addition to its writing and drawing capabilities, the S24 Ultra’s S Pen allows you to capture screenshots, take photos, and adjust audio playback. While it’s a versatile tool, its smell has raised some eyebrows among users.
One Reddit user described their Galaxy S24 Ultra S Pen as “absolutely reeking” and compared it to being “barbequed by the internals.” This prompted others to check their own S Pens and many confirmed that there was indeed a distinct burnt plastic odor.
Despite the concerns raised by users about the smell emanating from the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s S Pen, Samsung has reassured everyone that there is no cause for alarm. The company explained that the heat generated by the phone’s internal components while the stylus is in its holster can cause the plastic of the S Pen to heat up and emit a smell similar to burnt plastic. This phenomenon is likened to how a car’s seats and plastic fittings might smell hot on a sunny day but will dissipate once things cool down.
Interestingly, this issue isn’t limited to just the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Users of previous models like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra have also reported similar burnt smells coming from their S Pens. Despite this odor nuisance, these older models have not shown any functional issues with their styluses.
For those who find the smell off-putting, there’s good news – it seems to dissipate over time once the S Pen is taken out of its silo. So while it may be an unexpected quirk for some users, it’s ultimately nothing to worry about in terms of functionality or performance.
