Compelled by a new European law that mandates a common charging port for all smartphones, Apple will reluctantly retire its proprietary Lightning connector for a USB-C port. And looking at new survey results shared by smartphone price comparison site SellCell, Apple might end up thanking the EU for forcing its hands.<\/p>\n
SellCell questioned over 1,000 iPhone owners and over 1,000 Android users to find out if the inclusion of USB-C charging could influence their decision to buy the iPhone 15.<\/p>\n
The results were quite surprising. A significant 44 percent of Android phone users said they might consider the iPhone 15 if it features a USB-C port. On the other hand, 63 percent of iPhone owners might upgrade to the iPhone 15 because of the new port.<\/p>\n
So, what\u2019s the big deal about a new port? Well, the main reason is that consumers will be able to use the same charger for multiple devices, including iPhones, tablets, and Mac computers. USB-C chargers also offer faster charging and speedier data transfer speeds.<\/p>\n
As for those Android users who won\u2019t switch to an iPhone even after the introduction of the USB-C port, 73.81 percent said that they are content with Android and have no desire to buy an iPhone.<\/p>\n
On the iPhone side, 31 percent of owners who said that USB-C charging won\u2019t make them buy the iPhone 15 explained that a new port alone won\u2019t influence their decision to upgrade. Another 38.17 percent of those who don\u2019t regard this as a groundbreaking change said they are satisfied with their current iPhone.<\/p>\n
However, it\u2019s worth noting that a small minority of users across both operating systems mentioned that USB-C doesn\u2019t matter because they use wireless charging.<\/p>\n
Overall, the introduction of USB-C charging has piqued the interest of many Android users, with a significant portion considering a switch to the iPhone 15. Furthermore, a majority of iPhone owners are excited about the new port and are willing to upgrade for it.
