The company, which used to be known for its value and affordability, is now facing criticism and controversy. T-Mobile is making efforts to ensure that its subscribers stay loyal and don\u2019t spend their money elsewhere. As part of this effort, certain deals that used to come with a virtual prepaid Mastercard now only qualify for \u201cMagenta\u201d cards. These Magenta cards can only be used at T-Mobile for bill payments, equipment purchases, and monthly installments. In other words, they can\u2019t be used like regular Mastercards to buy anything anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Although T-Mobile still offers a discount of up to $1,000 for customers who switch from a competing carrier with up to five lines, this discount now comes in the form of a bill credit. This is similar to what Verizon and AT&amp;T are currently offering to their own customers who switch networks.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard not to see this as T-Mobile following in the footsteps of traditional US carriers, which T-Mobile used to criticize as \u201cdumb and dumber\u201d. Now, T-Mobile seems to be imitating their behavior and using similar tactics. Whether or not this policy change is a big deal is up to you to decide.
