Xplore Inc Exceeds Broadband Expansion Goals in Prince Edward Island

Xplore, a telecom company based in New Brunswick, has made significant progress with its broadband expansion project in Prince Edward Island, surpassing its initial targets and connecting more residents to high-speed Internet. Here are some key highlights of their accomplishments:

– Nearly 3,400 premises now have access to gigabit-speed fibre Internet, exceeding the original commitment of 3,000 connections.
– The goal is to reach nearly 4,000 premises by August 2024.
– Fibre Internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps are now available to over 20,000 Islanders, surpassing the planned 17,000 connections.

Rizwan Jamal, President and CEO of Xplore, expressed the significance of this progress by stating, “This is meaningful progress with a purpose. By surpassing our commitments for fibre and fixed wireless connectivity, we are ensuring that more residents across Prince Edward Island have access to the benefits of high-speed Internet.”

Key Project Details:

– Approximately 420 kilometres of fibre optic infrastructure have been deployed so far.
– A landmark fifteen-kilometre cable was installed within the Confederation Bridge corridor—the first telecommunications cable placed there in nearly 25 years.
– The project is funded by private investment from Xplore and federal funding through Infrastructure Canada’s Rural and Northern Infrastructure Stream.

In addition to their work in PEI, Xplore has expanded fibre internet services in Quebec and is embarking on a fibre and 5G Home Internet project for 98 rural municipalities in Ontario. Stay tuned for more updates on Xplore’s commitment to expanding telecommunications services across Canada.
