Apple fans have exciting new Apple Intelligence-based features to anticipate with the upcoming iOS 18 release in September. For those who can’t wait, there’s the option to try out the unstable iOS 18 public beta set to be released next month. However, beta software is known for its instability, which may cause some features to not work properly, impact battery life negatively, or even delay the appearance of desired features. Some changes coming to the iPhone with iOS 18 are not related to Apple Intelligence. According to 9to5Mac, one notable improvement is in the flashlight feature. Users will have more control over how bright the flashlight is and can adjust the width of the beam. A new user interface will allow users to control the beam’s width (wide, medium, and narrow) using a horizontal slider when activating the flashlight through the Lock Screen, Control Center, or Siri.

Adjusting a vertical slider will control the brightness of the flashlight, while tapping on the flashlight icon in the Dynamic Island will turn it on and off. The icon will remain visible until turned off. The new flashlight feature seems to offer up to seven brightness levels compared to four in previous versions.

Another highly anticipated non-AI-related feature announced by Apple is customizable home screen app icons for iPhones. Users with compatible devices can move icons to any empty space on their home screen and change their color using a slider at the bottom of the display. Color suggestions will also be provided to match app icon colors with wallpaper themes.

The developer beta for iOS 18 is currently available but consider its unstable nature before installing it. The public beta is expected next month, leading up to the final stable version of iOS 18 releasing in September alongside the iPhone 16 line-up.
