Révolutionnaire : WhatsApp va introduire une fonctionnalité de messagerie inter-applications

WhatsApp is always on the move with new features and updates, and its latest plan might just make life a whole lot easier. Imagine being able to send messages from one app to another without having to switch back and forth – that’s exactly what WhatsApp is aiming for with its upcoming cross-platform messaging feature.

In a recent interview with Wired, Dick Brouwer, an engineering director at WhatsApp, hinted at the possibility of allowing users to send messages to other apps like iMessage, Telegram, Google Messages, Signal, and more. This move comes as a response to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will soon come into effect.

WhatsApp has been working on finding a way for different messaging apps to connect to its service without compromising its end-to-end encryption. This is a significant step for the app, as it marks the first time it will be opening up in this way. The potential for users to chat across different platforms could bring more competition into the mix.

However, this change isn’t solely driven by WhatsApp’s initiative. In September last year, European lawmakers identified Meta (WhatsApp’s parent company) as one of several significant gatekeeper companies under the expansive Digital Markets Act. As a result, these companies have been given six months to open up their systems to others.

The move towards interoperability will initially focus on allowing users to send text messages, images, voice messages, videos, and files directly between different apps. However, there are still concerns about how WhatsApp will ensure the safety and encryption of messages when collaborating with other services.

While we await further details on how this plan will unfold in March and whether it will apply globally or only in the EU, it’s clear that WhatsApp is gearing up for some major changes that could significantly impact how we communicate across different platforms. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
