Exciting News: Apple Enhances True Tone and Battery Performance for Third-Party Parts • Phones Canada Blog

Apple recently announced plans to enhance software support for third-party iPhone components, such as displays and batteries, later this year. This move is part of the company’s commitment to designing long-lasting products and improving repairability. Here are the key points from Apple’s recent whitepaper:

– True Tone feature: Apple will enable True Tone and battery metrics for non-OEM iPhone screens and batteries. True Tone automatically adjusts the white balance of the display to match ambient light conditions.
– Better support for third-party parts: Starting in 2024, users will be able to activate True Tone with third-party parts for optimal performance. However, manual disabling of the feature will be possible in Settings if needed.
– Battery health metrics: Apple will display battery health metrics with a notification stating that they cannot verify information from third-party batteries. Customers should be aware that these metrics may not always be accurate.

While there is no specific timeline for implementing these changes, it is expected to coincide with the release of iOS 18 or shortly after. iOS 18 is anticipated to launch alongside the new iPhone 16 lineup in September.

Stay tuned for more updates on Apple’s initiatives towards supporting third-party iPhone spare parts.
