Google has recently unveiled seven exciting new Android features aimed at improving user experience and functionality across devices. These updates were shared by Jan Jedrzejowicz, Director of Product, Android and Business Communications.

Here’s a rundown of the latest enhancements:

  • Edit Sent Messages: Android users can now easily edit messages sent via Google Messages. By simply tapping and holding a sent RCS message, they can correct typos, add missing words, or clarify the message within 15 minutes of sending. This feature brings more flexibility and convenience to messaging on Android devices.

  • Seamless Hotspot Sharing and Device Switching: An upcoming update will allow Android users to connect their tablets or Chromebooks to their phone’s hotspot with a single tap, eliminating the need for passwords (a feature already available on iOS). Moreover, users will be able to switch devices during a Google Meet call by tapping the Cast icon, facilitating smooth transitions between an Android phone, tablet, or web browser.

  • New Emoji Kitchen Combinations: Android is introducing new Emoji Kitchen sticker combinations that allow users to create unique stickers like mixing a disco ball with headphones. These fun stickers can be shared via Gboard, perfect timing for the festival season.

  • Google Home Control from Home Screen: A new Google Home Favorites widget is now accessible on the phone’s home screen. This widget enables users to manage and control their smart devices directly from the home screen, providing quick access to functions like adjusting room temperature or turning off lights. This feature is currently available for those enrolled in Public Preview.

  • Wear OS Watch Smart Device Management: Wear OS smartwatch users can now add the Google Home Favorites tile and complication to efficiently view and control their smart home devices directly from their wrist. This update makes managing devices like unlocking doors or dimming lights a breeze.

  • Enhanced Payment Options with Google Wallet: Wear OS watch users in the U.S. and Germany can now make secure payments using PayPal through Google Wallet. This convenient feature allows for hassle-free transactions without relying on a phone. Stay tuned for updates on when this feature will be available in Canada.

  • Digital Car Key Expansion: The digital car key feature enables users to lock, unlock, and start their car using their phone. It is currently available on select MINI models and will soon be compatible with Mercedes-Benz and Polestar electric vehicles. Additionally, this feature allows users to securely share their digital car key with others.

These new features are designed to enhance your overall Android experience across various devices. Stay tuned for more updates as these enhancements roll out!
