Ontario has just launched an exciting new initiative called the One Fare Program, making it easier and more affordable for transit riders to move around the Greater Toronto Area. This program allows commuters to pay a single fare when traveling between the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and other regional transit services like GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Durham Region Transit, MiWay, and York Region Transit.
Here are some key points about the One Fare Program:
– Potential savings of up to $1,600 annually for adults commuting five days a week.
– Encourages people to choose public transit over personal vehicles for work commutes, events, or visiting loved ones.
– Eliminates double fares for riders traveling between two different transit systems.
– Makes travel within the region easier for visitors arriving by air without a car.
Andrew Weir, Executive Vice President for Destination Toronto, believes that this program not only benefits residents but also millions of visitors to the region each year. By integrating fares and making transit more accessible and cost-effective, Ontario is hoping to boost public transportation usage and reduce reliance on personal vehicles.
Passengers can take advantage of the One Fare Program by simply tapping their PRESTO card or using credit or debit cards. Unfortunately, there is currently no support for Apple Wallet or Express Mode with PRESTO cards. However, you can still use contactless payment methods like Apple Pay for added convenience.
With the launch of the One Fare Program, Ontario is taking a step towards creating a more efficient and interconnected transit system that benefits both residents and visitors alike. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting initiative!
