The adoption rate of the latest iOS release, iOS 17, seems to be lower than expected. Despite being eagerly anticipated by many, some users may not be aware of its availability or simply have no interest in updating their iPhones. The slower adoption rate is possibly attributed to the three small updates that Apple has released since the initial launch of iOS 17.
One of these updates, iOS 17.0.1, was rolled out soon after the release of iOS 17 to address security vulnerabilities. Another update, iOS 17.0.2, was specifically developed to fix a software issue that caused iPhone 15 series devices to crash when transferring data from older iPhone models. The most recent update, iOS 17.0.3, was primarily aimed at preventing overheating in certain apps like Instagram, Uber, and Asphalt 9, which affected both iPhone 15 series devices and some older models. This update also included fixes for various security issues.
According to Mixpanel, approximately 23% of eligible iPhone models are currently running one of the four iOS 17 releases. Among these, 12.13% are on iOS 17.0.2, 6.84% have downloaded iOS 17.0.3, 1.76% are running iOS 17.0.1, and 2% have remained on iOS 17. These adoption numbers are considerably lower compared to the approximately 45% of iPhone users who are still using the last two iOS 16 releases, iOS 16.6.1 and iOS 16.7.
It is important to note that iOS 17 was already pre-installed on millions of iPhone 15 series devices that were sold, thereby giving iOS 17 a head start. However, those who choose not to update to iOS 17 are not only missing out on bug fixes but also on some exciting features. One such feature is StandBy, which transforms an iPhone into a limited “smart display” when it is plugged in and placed in landscape mode.
Users who have not yet updated to iOS 17 also miss out on the ability to leave video messages on FaceTime, monitor voicemail in real time with Live Voicemail, create Contact Posters, and use CheckIn to notify friends and family when they arrive at a specific destination. These are just a few examples of the fantastic features available in the latest iOS build.
In conclusion, the adoption rate of iOS 17 may not be as high as expected at this stage. However, users who take the leap and update their iPhones can enjoy a range of new features and improvements.
