Here\u2019s what you need to know about Meta\u2019s new measures:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Meta will start by labeling images created using AI tools across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
\n\u2013 The company is working on an automated detection system to identify AI-generated content markers such as watermarks and metadata.
\n\u2013 While the initial focus is on images, Meta\u2019s long-term goal is to be able to identify AI-generated videos and audio as well.
\n\u2013 To achieve this, Meta has already begun labeling images created with its own AI and is working with industry partners to detect content created outside of its own tools.
\n\u2013 However, detecting AI-generated videos and audio poses a challenge due to the lack of standardized markers widely embraced by these tools.<\/p>\n
To address this issue, Meta plans to launch a new \u201cdisclosure and label tool\u201d that will allow users to manually indicate when video and audio content has been generated using AI. Users will be required to disclose digitally created or altered \u201cphotorealistic videos or realistic-sounding audio,\u201d with penalties for non-compliance.<\/p>\n
The initiative comes in response to concerns about the potential misuse of AI-generated content, particularly with deepfakes posing a threat in spreading misinformation.
