Huawei’s Electrifying Unveiling: Exciting Fans with New Phone, Tablets, and More

Today, Phones Canada is excited to share the news about Huawei’s latest flagship smartphone, the Mate 60 Pro. This highly anticipated device features Huawei’s own Kirin 9000s 5G chip, marking the company’s return to using its own chips since the Mate 40 line in 2020.

One of the biggest challenges Huawei faced was US restrictions, which prevented the company from obtaining cutting-edge chips from any foundry that uses American technology. As a result, Huawei had to use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chips modified to exclude 5G support in its previous flagship series.

With the release of the Mate 60 Pro, Huawei has managed to source 5G chips from China’s largest foundry, SMIC. These chips, manufactured at 7nm, are two generations behind the most cutting-edge 3nm A17 Pro chipset used by Apple. Although there were high expectations for Huawei to reveal how it bypassed US restrictions, the company remained silent on this topic during the event.

Apart from the Mate 60 Pro, Huawei also introduced the Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design model. This device maintains the same specifications as the Mate 60 Pro+, including a 6.82-inch OLED display, the Kirin 9000s chipset, a triple camera setup, and a 5000mAh battery. The Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design is available in Red and Black color options, with variants offering 16GB RAM and 512GB or 1TB of storage. Prices start at CNY 11,999 ($1,641) and go up to CNY 12,999 ($1,778), and sales are expected to begin later this month.

During the event, Huawei also unveiled new earbuds featuring a homegrown Kirin chip, as well as new smartwatches and flagship MatePad tablets. Richard Yu, Huawei’s consumer chief, compared the MatePad Pro to the iPad Pro on stage, generating applause from enthusiastic Huawei fans in the audience. It’s clear that Huawei is re-energized and ready to take on competitors like Apple and Samsung once again.

Stay tuned to Phones Canada for more updates on the Huawei Mate 60 Pro and other exciting tech news.
