France Gives Green Light to Apple’s Software Update Despite Radiation Worries for iPhone 12

France Approves Apple’s Software Update for iPhone 12 After Radiation Concerns

A few weeks ago, France decided to temporarily halt the sale of the iPhone 12 within its borders due to concerns about radiation levels emitted by the device. This decision sparked an investigation into the potential health risks associated with Apple’s iPhone 12 in other European countries. However, there is now a new development in the story.

According to Reuters, French authorities have given their approval for Apple’s latest software update for the iPhone 12. This is a significant win for Apple as it means that iPhone 12 sales can continue in France.

The whole issue began when a French consumer watchdog group raised concerns about the iPhone 12 surpassing safe radiation limits. In response, France’s National Frequency Agency (ANFR) took charge and initiated an investigation.

Apple, on the other hand, remained steadfast in their position, asserting that their devices complied with all safety regulations and that the accusations were unfounded. They even conducted their own tests, claiming that the iPhone 12’s radiation levels were within acceptable international standards.

To settle the dispute, Apple committed to releasing a software update for iPhone 12 devices in France. The French government welcomed this move and stated that once the update was swiftly tested, sales of the 2020-released iPhone 12 could resume.

Following a thorough evaluation of Apple’s software update, the French authorities have given their approval, confirming that the iPhone 12’s radiation levels fall within acceptable limits. In response to the issue, Apple stated that the problem “is related to a specific testing protocol used by French regulators and not a safety concern.”

While Apple is not actively promoting the iPhone 12 on its official website and stores, other retailers and second-hand shops continue to sell the device. If Apple had chosen not to release the software update, the situation could have escalated further. France had the option to recall all iPhone 12 devices from the country.

Last year, Apple generated $95 billion in revenue from its European market, making it the second-largest market after the Americas. Some estimates suggest that over 50 million iPhones were sold in Europe alone. With the introduction of the iPhone 15 lineup, which includes the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, these numbers are expected to rise even further.
