All announcements to expect at the Google Pixel 8 October event
The highlight of the event will be the Pixel 8 series, which Google has already teased the design of. Though the exact specifications are not yet known, we have a good idea of what to expect from numerous rumors and leaks about Google’s 2023 phones.
The Pixel 8 is expected to feature a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 125.8-degree field of view. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro is rumored to have the same 50MP Wide camera, a 48MP Ultra-wide camera, and a 48MP Telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and up to 30x Super Res Zoom. Both phones will also come with a 10.5MP front-facing selfie camera, but the Pixel 8 Pro will have Auto Focus while the Pixel 8 will have a fixed-focus camera.
In terms of colors, the Pixel 8 will be available in Peony Rose, Grey, and Obsidian Black, while the Pixel 8 Pro will come in Sky Blue, Porcelain, and Obsidian Black. The Pixel 8 will have a slightly smaller screen compared to its predecessor, but both models will have improved brightness, with the Pixel 8 Pro supporting up to 2,400 nits peak brightness.
The Pixel 8 Pro will be more durable with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and will weigh 213 grams, slightly more than the Pixel 8’s 187 grams. Google has also enhanced the camera with features like Real Tone, Night Sight, Astrophotography, Super Res Zoom, and Magic Editor for swapping faces. Both phones are IP68-rated, making them dust and water-resistant.
The Pixel 8 will have a 4,575 mAh battery with 27W fast charging and Qi-certified wireless charging up to 18W. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro will come with a larger 5,050mAh battery, supporting faster 30W fast charging and Qi-certified wireless charging up to 23W. Details about reverse wireless charging speeds, if any, have not been revealed yet.
Google Pixel Watch 2
The next generation Pixel Watch 2 is rumored to feature a new Snapdragon processor and take inspiration from Google’s Fitbit line. It may include a skin temperature sensor and cEDA monitor for real-time thermometer readings.
Pixel Buds 3
Google’s Pixel 8 teaser hints at the possible unveiling of the next generation Pixel Buds Pro or Pixel Buds A-series. While exact specifications haven’t been disclosed, we can expect improved ANC performance, the latest Bluetooth connectivity standard, and hopefully, longer battery life.
Android 14
On October 4, Google will release the retail version of its latest Android 14 for manufacturers. Samsung and OnePlus have postponed the launch of their One UI 6 and OxygenOS 14 updates, respectively, possibly due to Google’s control over the release of Android 14. Google may also discuss its Bard AI efforts and integration with default apps or services on the Pixel 8 series.
Stay tuned for all the announcements from Google’s October 4 event.
