Samsung’s flagship Galaxy phones have traditionally come in two versions: one with the company’s Exynos chipset and another with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon equivalent. However, this changed in 2023 when the Galaxy S23 series was released worldwide with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Initially, it was believed that this change would be permanent. But now, reports suggest that Samsung will return to its chip-splitting strategy with the upcoming Galaxy S24 series in 2024. These rumors have been further confirmed by Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.

During a conference held on November 1, Amon stated that the “Galaxy S24 will be released soon” and that “Qualcomm has the majority market share.” This implies that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will not be the only chipset powering the Galaxy S24 lineup. Based on past patterns, it is expected that there will also be Exynos 2400 models.

It is worth noting that if Samsung continues to split the Exynos and Snapdragon markets as before, it may not align with Qualcomm’s majority market share claim. Traditionally, Snapdragon models have been released in North America, while Exynos counterparts have been sold in the rest of the world. Therefore, rumors suggesting that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all regions might be true.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus versions are expected to follow the same distribution pattern as previous generations, with Snapdragon models being sold in North America and Exynos models in the rest of the world. The reason why Samsung does not want to sell its flagship with its own SoC is unclear, but it raises questions about the company’s confidence in its own product.

In summary, it seems highly likely that Samsung will revert to its chip-splitting strategy with the Galaxy S24 series, offering both Exynos and Snapdragon options.
