Enhanced Apps and Features Unveiled for Android Auto and Android Automotive OS by Google

At the recent Google I/O 2024 event, the tech giant made some exciting announcements regarding Android Auto and Android Automotive OS, showcasing their dedication to enhancing the car ecosystem. With over 200 million cars currently using Android Auto and almost 40 car models equipped with Google built-in, it’s clear that Google is making significant strides in this space.

To make the driving experience even more enjoyable, Google is introducing new entertainment apps such as Max, Peacock, and Angry Birds to select cars with Google built-in. In addition, Uber Driver app is now accessible on Android Auto, allowing drivers to accept rides and deliveries while receiving turn-by-turn directions on a larger screen.

But that’s not all – Google has also revealed that Google Cast will be available on cars with Android Automotive OS, starting with Rivian. This feature enables users to easily stream video content from their mobile devices directly to their car screens while parked.

Furthermore, Google unveiled the Car ready mobile apps program designed to simplify the process of bringing mobile apps to cars without requiring additional work from developers. This initiative ensures that mobile apps are reviewed for adaptability and large screen compatibility, guaranteeing safety and compatibility within the auto ecosystem.

Apps that meet the program’s criteria will be automatically included for distribution on cars with Google built-in and accessible through Android Auto. This eliminates the need for developers to create new releases specifically for cars.

Google plans to roll out the Car ready mobile apps program in the upcoming months, focusing initially on parked app categories like video, gaming, and browsers. Stay tuned for more updates as Google continues to enhance the driving experience through innovative technology solutions.
