Spotify is always striving to enhance the user experience by reflecting the vibrancy and creativity of its community. One of the latest developments in this mission is the introduction of a new, exclusive font – Spotify Mix.
The bespoke typeface Spotify Mix is now replacing the current font used in Spotify’s in-app and desktop experiences. This new font is being rolled out to listeners on Spotify in all languages with Latin-based scripts, as well as Vietnamese.
According to Rasmus Wängelin, Global Head of Brand Design at Spotify, “Spotify Mix is a variable font designed just for us, and we consider it, quite literally, a remix.” The design process for this typeface involved breaking free from traditional typographic constraints and merging elements from various font styles. This innovative approach reflects the dynamic and evolving nature of audio culture over the years.
The result is a sans-serif typeface that combines features from classic and contemporary styles, resulting in a distinctive and unique look. The shapes of sound waves are subtly incorporated into the design to evoke a rhythmic feel. The combination of sharp angles and smooth curves gives the typeface a distinctive character that embodies the essence of Spotify.
Overall, Spotify Mix represents a significant step forward in enhancing the visual identity of Spotify’s platform while staying true to its dynamic and creative ethos.
