Top 90 Android Apps Making Your Life Difficult with Over 5.5 Million Downloads – Phones Canada

At Phones Canada, we understand the importance of keeping your device safe from malicious apps. That’s why we want to highlight a recent discovery by Zscaler ThreatLabz that identified 90 harmful apps on Google Play. These apps were downloaded over 5.5 million times, posing a serious threat to users.

Many of these apps were dropper apps, designed to look harmless but actually install malware on your device. The malware families spread by these apps include Joker, Adware, Facestealer, Anatsa, and Coper. Even though only a small percentage of the apps facilitated the installation of impactful trojans like Antasa and Copper, it’s still a cause for concern.

Two specific apps associated with Antasa mentioned in the report are PDF Reader & File Manager and QR Reader & File Manager, which were downloaded over 70,000 times. The names of the other 88 harmful apps have not been disclosed, but they spanned categories like Tools, Personalization, Photography, Productivity, Health & Fitness, Communication, Art & Design, and Entertainment.

It’s crucial to remain vigilant when downloading any app, even from official marketplaces like Google Play. Here are some key takeaways from this report:

– Always check user reviews and the name of the publisher before downloading an app.
– Be cautious of apps that seem too good to be true or request excessive permissions.
– Regularly update your device’s operating system and security software to protect against new threats.

Remember that safety should always come first when it comes to your smartphone or tablet. Stay informed and stay safe with Phones Canada.
