WWDC has kicked off once again, and this year Apple is diving headfirst into the world of artificial intelligence. At today’s WWDC 2024 event, Apple unveiled the new iOS 18 along with some fresh AI updates across all its major software under the moniker Apple Intelligence. Developers can already access a beta build to test their apps, and soon regular users will be able to sign up their iDevices to receive public beta builds once they’re released.
When it comes to where Apple sprinkled its AI magic, it’s pretty much everywhere in its software. With the introduction of iOS 18, we’re seeing the biggest software refresh in years, with Siri taking center stage.
Siri has received a major overhaul using large language models to make it smarter and more responsive to user queries. The new Siri can now take actions within Apple’s own apps, significantly boosting its capabilities. The updated Siri feels more casual and conversational with a more natural-sounding voice. It can now handle a wider range of tasks like finding specific items in photos or providing quick summaries of messages and notifications.
But that’s not all – Apple is infusing AI into many of its own apps as well:
– Safari now features Intelligent Search for highlighting key topics on web pages.
– Messages offers better suggested replies powered by AI and emoji creation based on message content.
– Mail includes Smart Replies for quick responses, automatic email categorization, and email rewriting options.
– Photos introduces AI-powered object removal and easier search functionality.
– Apple Music brings auto-generated playlists crafted by AI.
– Notes offers voice memo recording with transcriptions and AI-generated summaries.
– Voice Memos now include transcripts and summaries for recorded content.
iOS 18 will be compatible with a wide range of iPhones, including all models from the iPhone 11 series onwards. Some advanced AI capabilities may be exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models and newer devices.
In terms of privacy and security, some new AI features in iOS 18 will work directly on your device without relying on cloud servers for processing. Users have full control over where their data is stored, ensuring maximum privacy protection.
Apple has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into iOS 18, offering users the option to enable this feature at no cost without requiring an account.
With these exciting updates on the horizon, we can’t wait to see how Apple continues to innovate in the world of artificial intelligence. Stay tuned for more information on iOS 18 compatibility as we approach its official launch alongside the iPhone 16 series later this year!
