Revolutionize Communication: iOS 18 Brings Satellite Messaging to iPhones in Canada

At WWDC 2024, Apple made a significant announcement – satellite messaging is now a reality with iOS 18. This new feature takes the well-known emergency SOS via satellite function to the next level. With iOS 18, owners of certain iPhone models will now be able to enjoy Messages via satellite.

Which iPhones are eligible for this exciting update? Here’s the list:
– iPhone 14
– iPhone 14 Pro
– iPhone 14 Pro Max

Once these iPhones receive the iOS 18 update this Fall, users will have the ability to send messages securely and end-to-end encrypted via satellite. This feature builds upon Apple’s original Emergency SOS via satellite function, which was first introduced on November 15th, 2022.

Originally launched in the US and Canada, this feature has since expanded to several European countries by March 2023. Users can use this feature to report various emergencies such as vehicle issues, sickness, crime, being lost, or fires. The iPhone guides users on how to establish a satellite connection and sends crucial emergency details like location, battery level, and medical information to responders.

Additionally, users can engage in two-way messaging with emergency services and notify their emergency contacts. Apple has also implemented a text compression algorithm for faster message delivery and provides guidance on satellite availability in case of connection loss.

With all these incredible features in place, it’s safe to assume that the upcoming iPhone 16 line will also include the Messages via satellite function. Keep an eye out for more updates as Apple continues to innovate and enhance its products for a better user experience.
