There has been a lot of buzz lately about a new OnePlus smartwatch, and while many were expecting it to be the OnePlus Watch 3, recent reports suggest something different.
– A new tip from well-known leaker Max Jambor indicates that the upcoming smartwatch may actually be unveiled as the OnePlus Watch 2R.
– Although details are scarce at the moment, the delay in rumors about the OnePlus Watch 3 now seems to make more sense. It is possible that the smartwatch everyone is talking about is not the OnePlus Watch 3 but rather an updated version of the OnePlus Watch 2.
– Previous leaks also hint that this new model could be more of an upgrade to the existing OnePlus Watch 2 rather than an entirely new flagship model.
What we know so far about the rumored OnePlus Watch 2R:
– Expected to feature a familiar design with a circular dial and two buttons on the right side.
– Certification listings suggest it may come with a 500mAh battery and 10W charging capability, similar to its predecessor.
– The major upgrade seems to be the addition of eSIM support for LTE connectivity, a feature missing in the current model.
The upcoming smartwatch has recently appeared on certification websites, indicating it will support LTE connectivity for e-SIMs compatible with Chinese telecom providers. It will also support Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, GLONASS, and WLAN (wireless network).
While an official announcement seems imminent now that certification has been cleared, it is likely that OnePlus will first release it in China and India before making it available globally. The decision to introduce an updated version of the previous model with e-SIM support could prove strategic for OnePlus as cellular connectivity was lacking in their current offering.
To compete against rivals like Galaxy Watch 6 Classic or Google Pixel Watch 2, having a smartwatch with cellular connectivity would give OnePlus an edge in the market. Stay tuned for more updates on when and where you can get your hands on this exciting new device!
