Stay Protected: Google Pixel Phone’s AI Anti-Scam Feature Launching Soon in Canada!

Google is stepping up its game when it comes to spam and scam call detection on Pixel devices with a new AI-powered feature called “Sharpie.” This innovative functionality, unveiled during I/O, will use artificial intelligence to identify scam calls in real time.

The technology, part of Google’s Gemini Nano feature, was introduced at the recent I/O event. Specifically designed for smartphones, Gemini Nano allows AI tasks to be processed directly on the device. As a result, the AI-enabled scam detection feature will initially be available on newer Pixel models like the Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and the upcoming Pixel 9 series.

This enhanced scam detection feature is set to differentiate between spam and scam calls. Users can also manually report calls as either category. While Google initially mentioned that users would need to activate the feature manually, recent code discoveries suggest it might be automatically enabled for certain devices managed under Family Link.

The new scam detection feature is expected to debut at the forthcoming Made by Google event alongside the anticipated Pixel 9 series launch. This technology will complement Google’s existing spam protection measures, such as the “Filter spam calls” option on all Android smartphones and the “Automatically screen and decline robocalls” feature on Pixel devices.

While specific details about how the “Sharpie” feature will work remain unclear, it signifies a significant advancement in Google’s fight against spam and scam calls. By harnessing AI to filter out unwanted calls, Google is enhancing one of the key benefits that Pixel users enjoy on their devices.
