Apple is gearing up to ship over 9 million M4-powered iPad Pro (2024) tablets this year, a report from DigiTimes Asia reveals. These tablets, available in 11-inch and 13-inch variants, boast OLED displays, marking a significant milestone for Apple as it’s the first time iPads are equipped with this technology. Despite initial manufacturing challenges with Tandem OLED panels, Apple and its South Korean display suppliers, LG Display and Samsung Display, are committed to meeting their shipping targets.
Market research firm Omida predicts that global shipments of tablets featuring OLED displays will reach 12.1 million units in 2024. Of these, 8.12 million tablets will utilize “Hybrid OLED” displays, which essentially refers to the two-stack OLED configuration found in the iPad Pro models. This innovative display setup enhances brightness, durability, and cost but requires precision manufacturing techniques.
LG Display and Samsung Display are set to play key roles in supplying the necessary OLED panels for Apple’s iPad Pro (2024) lineup:
– LG Display anticipates shipping 5 million OLED panels tailored for the hybrid display design.
– Samsung Display aims to deliver over 4 million units and is expanding production lines at the A3 facility to accommodate iPad Pro’s OLED panel requirements.
LG Display has invested significantly in a dedicated production line for two-stack OLED displays, allocating KRW3.4 trillion (approximately $2.5 billion) towards this endeavor. This investment ensures that both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro (2024) models benefit from top-tier display technology. On the other hand, Samsung Display focuses on producing Hybrid OLED panels exclusively for the 11-inch model.
As Apple’s iPad Pro (2024) continues to garner attention for its cutting-edge features and premium design elements, consumers can expect a seamless blend of innovation and performance in these upcoming devices. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development within the tablet market landscape!
