Apple has decided not to integrate Meta’s AI chatbot (Llama) into their devices due to concerns about Meta’s privacy practices. This decision comes after brief talks between the two tech giants in March that did not progress further. Instead, Apple recently announced a deal with ChatGPT and plans to offer Gemini in the future.
The move to discontinue talks with Meta was influenced by Apple’s preference for ChatGPT over Meta’s technology. Apple has criticized Meta’s privacy practices and sees ChatGPT as a superior option. With Google already a partner for search on Apple’s Safari, a future collaboration for Gemini seems more likely.
Apple introduced its AI features under Apple Intelligence at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10. This new system will be available on selected iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, offering various features such as email tone adjustment, proofreading, generating summaries, and Priority Notifications that highlight important personal notifications.
Other features of Apple Intelligence include Genmoji for creating custom emojis based on descriptions, Image Playground for building custom images from words, and Image Wand for refining rough sketches into polished images. Siri has also been enhanced with Natural Language understanding and Personal Context to interpret user intent accurately even with mistakes and remember ongoing conversations.
As we look forward to the future of Apple Intelligence without Meta’s involvement, it raises the question of how different the system would have been with Meta’s help. What are your thoughts on this decision by Apple? Share your opinions in the comments below.
