Apple Car’s Cutting-Edge Chip Boasts Record-Breaking 536 Billion Transistors – Phones Canada

Apple recently announced the end of the Apple Car project, which involved a significant investment of ten years and ten billion dollars to develop an autonomous vehicle. One intriguing aspect of this project was the creation of a new chip by Apple, rumored to have the performance capabilities equivalent to four M2 Ultra chips. Each M2 Ultra chip is known for its impressive specs, including 134 billion transistors, a 24-core CPU, a 76-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine. By combining four of these components, Apple aimed to create an incredibly powerful chip for the Apple Car.

The potential chip for the Apple Car was speculated to carry an astounding 536 billion transistors, along with a 96-core CPU and a 304-core GPU. Although there is no concrete evidence confirming this equivalence to four M2 Ultra chips, the number of transistors within a chip plays a crucial role in determining its power and energy efficiency. Leveraging their “UltraFusion” technology used in previous chip combinations like the M1 Ultra, Apple might have been on track to develop a groundbreaking silicon component from four M2 Ultra chips.

In comparison, the A17 Pro application processor (AP) that powers iPhones like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max contains only 19 billion transistors – just 3.5% of what could have been inside Apple’s potential chip for the Apple Car. Speculation suggests that this chip may have been close to completion before the project’s cancellation – could it have been the anticipated M3 Ultra?

As we await further developments from Apple on their future chip releases, particularly the rumored M3 Ultra, it will be fascinating to see if any similarities emerge between this new chip and the powerhouse component intended for the Apple Car. One thing is certain – if developed, this chip would likely be manufactured by TSMC, one of the world’s largest foundries offering cutting-edge semiconductor technology. Stay tuned for more updates on Apple’s innovative advancements in telecommunications technology!
