Boosting Connectivity: Federal and B.C. Governments Invest $37 Million in High-Speed Internet Expansion • Phones Canada

Phones Canada is excited to share the latest news about the federal government and British Columbia’s initiative to expand high-speed internet in rural areas. The investment of over $37 million will make a significant impact, bringing connectivity to over 7,500 households, including 1,320 Indigenous homes.

Here are some key points about this important project:

– 14 projects will be implemented to provide high-speed internet access to underserved communities in British Columbia.
– One of the projects includes bringing cellular service to a roadway through Nisga’a Nation lands.
– Telus, the Nisga’a Lisims Government, Ktunaxa Nation (FlexiNET), CityWest Cable & Telephone Corp., and Kaslo infoNET Society are among the organizations involved in constructing and expanding high-speed internet infrastructure.
– The funding does not include contracts with SpaceX’s Starlink, despite its ability to connect remote communities cost-effectively.
– The goal is to ensure that all British Columbians have access to reliable, high-speed internet through partnerships between government and private sector stakeholders.

This initiative is part of a larger plan dating back to March 2022, where $830 million was allocated to bring high-speed internet to rural and remote areas. The ultimate aim is for 98% of Canadians to have access to high-speed internet by 2026 and reach full coverage by 2030.

At Phones Canada, we value connectivity and accessibility for all Canadians. Stay tuned for more updates on how telecommunications advancements are shaping our digital future!
