Breaking News: Sony Halts PS VR2 Development, Only Two Games in Works • Phones Canada Updates

Sony is making some changes to its PS VR2 headset lineup, with reports suggesting that only two games are currently in active development for PlayStation. According to sources cited by Android Central, Sony is scaling back funding for future VR titles, indicating a shift towards fewer opportunities for VR game development within the company.

Despite this news, Sony’s commitment to the PS VR2 remains strong. Launched earlier this year to critical acclaim, the headset boasts impressive specs such as 2000 x 2040 HDR resolution support, 120Hz refresh rate, and 3D audio. The initial game lineup included hits like Horizon Call of the Mountain, Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Beat Saber.

However, concerns arose as first-party support seemed lacking over time. Job cuts at Firesprite, the studio behind Horizon Call of the Mountain, raised questions about Sony Interactive Entertainment’s direction. In response to these challenges, Sony is expanding the PS VR2’s reach by introducing PC compatibility. Starting August 7th, users can purchase an adapter allowing them to play VR games on their PC through Steam for $59.99 (approx. $80 CAD).

This move opens up a new world of possibilities for PS VR2 owners by enabling them to enjoy popular PC titles like Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR, VR Chat, and Phasmophobia. While Sony has not officially addressed the reports of downsizing its PS VR2 software support, this strategic shift towards cross-platform compatibility signals a broader vision for the future of virtual reality gaming.

Stay tuned for more updates on how these changes will impact your PS VR2 experience!
