Phones Canada is excited to share the latest news from the CBC about their upcoming expansion of 14 new free 24/7 ad-supported streaming (FAST) channels in the 2024-25 programming slate. This initiative is set to provide enhanced local news coverage for audiences all across Canada.
Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President of CBC, expressed her enthusiasm for the diverse lineup of original Canadian programming coming up in the next year. She emphasized the importance of reflecting a wide range of people, places, and perspectives from across the country in innovative ways.
As Canada’s storyteller, CBC is committed to standing out from other media options by offering audiences more local coverage and stories from their own communities. Currently, viewers can access CBC News BC and CBC News Toronto live on platforms like CBC Gem, the CBC News App, the Roku Channel, and Samsung TV Plus.
In addition to these existing channels, over the next year, viewers can look forward to 12 new FAST channels serving various regions such as Calgary, Edmonton, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ottawa, PEI, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Windsor. These channels will provide continuous coverage of breaking news, weather updates, headlines, and local stories.
This expansion comes on the heels of CBC’s recent launch of seven community-focused podcasts and the addition of 19 local live streams of CBC Radio in the CBC News App. Stay tuned for more updates on when these new channels will be available for your viewing pleasure!
