Exciting News: Google Restores Speaker Group Volume Controls on Pixels with Android 15 Beta 2!

The latest update of Android 15 Beta 2 has brought some exciting features for Pixel users, including the return of speaker group volume controls while casting. This functionality had been missing for some time due to a legal dispute with Sonos, but it has now been restored, much to the delight of Pixel users.

Previously, controlling the volume of speaker groups was only possible while the casting app remained open on Pixel devices. However, with the recent update, users can once again adjust the volume of their speaker groups even when the app is closed. This change comes after a California judge overturned a jury verdict in favor of Sonos, allowing Google to restore this feature.

Google had introduced a flag in 2021 that controlled platform-level volume adjustments for grouped devices, but it was disabled for Pixel devices until now. With the release of Android 15 Beta 2 builds for Pixel phones, this flag has been enabled again, bringing back the speaker group volume controls.

While this is a positive development for Pixel users, there is still one casting-related feature missing: stream expansion. This feature allows users to add more devices to the cast using the media output switcher and is available on non-Pixel devices running Android 15 Beta 2. The return of this function is expected in the future, although the exact timeline is uncertain.

Overall, these updates bring improved functionality and usability to Pixel devices when it comes to casting audio to speaker groups. Stay tuned for more updates and enhancements as Android 15 continues to evolve.
