How long will the Galaxy S24 receive software support?

Samsung has just announced that it will offer seven years of support for its new line. This includes seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. This means that the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will come with One UI6.1/Android 14 out of the box, and will be supported with upgrades and security updates up until 2031.

This announcement follows Google’s promise of seven years of software support for the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro, which includes Android OS upgrades, security updates, and regular Feature Drops, lasting until 2030. Samsung has been “actively discussing” long-term security updates for “more than five years of support” and plans to provide updates for over 150+ Samsung devices on a monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual release schedule in various markets worldwide.

Prior to this, Apple was leading the software support game, with the promise of supporting its devices for extended periods. This extended software support is beneficial for the longevity and proper functioning of the device, addressing potential security threats, and providing the option for a longer lifespan and resale value.
