Phones Canada is excited to share with you all the details about the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max! Apple has been hard at work over the past year, and now we finally get to see the fruits of their labor. Let’s dive right in!
First up, let’s talk about pricing. The good news is that there won’t be a significant price hike compared to last year’s models. However, Apple has decided to remove the 128 GB tier for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. So, the Pro Max will now start at $1,199 for the 256 GB model. The regular iPhone 15 Pro will start at $999 for 128 GB. Pre-orders will begin on September 15th, and the phones will be available on September 22nd. So, mark your calendars!
Now, let’s talk about the design and build. The new iPhones feature the familiar soft rectangle shape with a full-screen upfront. This year, Apple has managed to further reduce the bezels around the display, giving us a bigger screen-to-body ratio. This means we get larger screens in slightly smaller phones. Plus, we now have a titanium-made frame! The Grade 5 Titanium frame, supported by aluminum, not only adds a touch of elegance but also makes the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max lighter without compromising durability. No more fingerprints on stainless steel frames!
Moving on to the features, the new iPhones retain their 6.1-inch (iPhone 15 Pro) and 6.7-inch (iPhone 15 Pro Max) OLED panels with a 120 Hz ProMotion refresh rate. And don’t worry, the Dynamic Island around the selfie camera is here to stay. It’s a fun way to hide the selfie camera hole and offers different types of information based on your running apps.
Now, here’s an interesting change — say goodbye to the mute switch and hello to the Action button. The Action button can be customized to run your favorite apps, Focus Mode, or perform specific functions within apps using Siri shortcuts. It’s a handy addition for quick access!
Another significant change is the introduction of USB Type-C connectors for charging and data transfer. This shift to USB Type-C brings faster speeds, with the Pro models supporting USB 3.2 speeds of 10 gigabits per second. Finally, no more Lightning-only charging!
Let’s talk processing power. The new Apple A17 Pro chipsets are built on a 3 nm process— the first smartphone chipset to do so. This means better performance and energy efficiency as Apple can fit more transistors in the chip. The CPU and GPU have seen improvements, boasting faster speeds, better performance per watt ratios, and even hardware raytracing for the first time. Plus, support for the latest Wi-Fi 6E protocols and Thread compatibility for smart home integration.
Moving on to the camera, the iPhone 15 Pro still features the 48 MP main camera sensor, but with upgraded computational photography, you can expect even better 24 MP photos by default. Apple has also made improvements to lens flare reduction, night photography, and HDR algorithms for capturing accurate skin tones. Pro Mode users can now shoot in 48 MP HEIF, saving storage space.
Zoom enthusiasts will be happy to hear that the telephoto camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max has been upgraded to 5x zoom, while the Pro models offer “lossless” zoom levels from 1x to 4.9x using the high-res main camera and software. And for the content creators out there, the new USB 3 speed allows for ProRes video recording directly to external storage devices.
Last but not least, let’s talk battery life. Apple promises all-day battery life, although they haven’t disclosed the exact battery capacities. With the energy efficiency improvements of the Apple A17 Pro chip, we can expect the iPhone 15 Pro Max to offer impressive battery endurance.
That wraps up our rundown of the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. We hope you’re as excited as we are about these fantastic devices. Stay tuned for more updates from Phones Canada!
