Is Samsung Really Transitioning to a Micro LED Galaxy Watch Ultra?

Phones Canada is excited to share some interesting news from the world of smartwatches. As we all know, there is a wide range of options available to cater to different user preferences. From budget-friendly options to health and fitness-focused choices, and even premium experiences like the Apple Watch Ultra or the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, there’s something for everyone. And now, it seems Samsung is set to shake up the premium wearable market with a new offering.

According to a report from GizmoChina (via MySmartPrice), Samsung is planning to incorporate its Micro LED display technology into smaller devices, including smartwatches. This comes as the company globally launches its Micro LED display for TVs this year. Rumor has it that Samsung is working on a model tentatively named the “Galaxy Watch Ultra,” which will feature this innovative Micro LED display.

To make way for this new technology, Samsung aims to phase out OLED from its Galaxy Watch lineup within a year. The company established a dedicated Micro LED team last year and has already started developing Micro LED displays specifically designed for smartwatches. After a year of development and subsequent research stages, these displays are expected to make their way into small consumer electronic devices.

Now, you may be wondering, what exactly is a Micro LED display? Well, as the name suggests, it involves ultra-small LEDs, each measuring less than 100 micrometers. These LEDs are thinner than a hair and have the ability to emit light and color independently, eliminating the need for a backlight or color filter. Samsung’s Micro LED uses elements that are less than 50㎛ in size, which is just 10% of those found in typical high-resolution B2B products. Additionally, the RGB elements are made from inorganic materials, ensuring no burn-in issues and maintaining excellent brightness and image quality for over 100,000 hours.

The adoption of Micro LED displays in smartwatches is expected to have an impact on pricing. We are eagerly waiting to see what Samsung has in store for the next year. Given Samsung’s reputation as one of the world’s most innovative tech companies, we believe the wait will be worth it. Stay tuned for more updates from Phones Canada!
