In June 2021, it was reported that Apple was considering the development of a larger iPad. Subsequent reports also suggested that a giant iPad was in the works. However, according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the rumored 14-inch iPad may not be coming anytime soon.
In his 2021 report, Gurman mentioned that a tablet similar to the 14-inch iPad Pro was in the pipeline and could potentially be released in 2023. However, reliable analyst Ross Young later stated that Apple had changed its plans and was no longer working on a 14.1-inch tablet.
When asked about Apple’s plans for a larger iPad, Gurman revealed in his PowerOn newsletter that a 14.1-inch iPad is unlikely to be released in the near future. He explained that Apple had come close to launching a 14-inch model this year but ultimately decided against it.
There are several theories as to why Apple shelved the project. One possibility is that Apple did not want its tablets to compete with its computers by introducing an iPad with a screen size similar to that of a Mac. Additionally, there may be cost and screen restrictions that Apple needed to take into consideration. It is worth noting that Apple is already planning to release a slightly larger 13-inch iPad Pro with an OLED screen in the first half of 2024. Releasing two high-end iPads in close proximity to each other may not be ideal for the company.
However, there is still a chance for a giant iPad Pro model in the future. The Information reported in late 2022 that Apple was working on a 16-inch iPad Pro and that it could potentially be released in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the release of a larger iPad, Apple continues to innovate and provide customers with new and exciting products. Stay tuned for more updates from Phones Canada.
