Motorola Dominates European Market in 2023: Unprecedented Strength and Growth

The European smartphone market has seen a record share of high-end smartphones during the fourth quarter of 2023, with nearly 40% of all smartphone shipments priced at $800 USD or higher, according to research firm Canalys. The dominance of the high-end segment was mainly fueled by strong demand for the iPhone 15 Pro, consistent volumes of the Samsung Galaxy S-series, and growing Google Pixel sales.

Here are some key highlights from Canalys’ report:

– The iPhone made up 77% of the fourth quarter shipments in the high-end segment, followed by Samsung with 16% and Google with 4%.
– Apple took the top spot in Europe with 12.4 million iPhone units shipped during Q4, accounting for one out of every three smartphones delivered in Europe. This marked a 1% annual growth rate for Apple.
– Samsung followed closely behind with 10.8 million units shipped, representing a 12% decline from the previous year.
– Xiaomi shipped 6 million units during the fourth quarter, a decrease of 10% from the same quarter in the previous year.
– Motorola saw a significant increase in shipments with a 73% jump to two million units during Q4, capturing 5% of the European smartphone market.

For all of 2023, Samsung maintained its position as the largest smartphone manufacturer in Europe despite experiencing an 11% decline in shipments. Apple’s market share increased to 27%, while Xiaomi finished third and Motorola moved up to become the fourth largest smartphone shipper.

In total, there were about 129.8 million smartphones delivered in Europe throughout last year, marking an overall decline from previous years’ figures.

Despite these fluctuations within the European smartphone market, it is clear that high-end smartphones continue to command significant attention and sales across the continent.
