In the fourth quarter of 2023, Pixel handsets accounted for 3% of all phone shipments in North America, according to Counterpoint Research. Apple dominated the market with a 62% share, followed by Samsung at 18%, Motorola at 8%, and Google at 3%. T-Mobile’s REVVL brand and HMD each captured 2% of the market in Q4.

Globally, Apple surpassed Samsung in the fourth quarter as its shipments increased by 2%, while Samsung’s declined by 9%. Xiaomi gained market share in the mid-tier segment, while Huawei saw triple-digit growth with its Mate 60 series powered by the Kirin 9000s 5G chipset.

Google’s Pixel line had a successful year, selling 10 million units in 2023. Although this number may seem small compared to Apple and Samsung’s global numbers, it marks significant progress for Google compared to its previous market share of just 1% in North America in 2021.

Overall, there were 323.2 million smartphone units shipped worldwide in 2023. Fourth-quarter shipments increased by 7% year-over-year and by 8% from Q3 to Q4.

The smartphone industry is constantly evolving, with different manufacturers vying for market share. As Google continues to improve its Pixel line and increase its presence in the market, it will be interesting to see how it competes with industry giants like Apple and Samsung moving forward.
