Protecting Your Privacy: AT&T Reveals Action Plan After 7.6 Million Customer Passcodes Leak

AT&T has taken swift action to address a recent data leak affecting millions of customers. Here’s what you need to know:

– AT&T has reset the account passcodes for customers impacted by the data leak.
– The company is reaching out to customers whose personal information was compromised, offering complimentary identity theft and credit monitoring services.
– The leaked data includes sensitive information such as email accounts and passcodes used to access accounts.
– AT&T believes the leaked data dates back to 2019 or earlier and does not include personal financial information or call history.

In response to the situation, AT&T has issued the following statement:

“It has come to our attention that a number of AT&T passcodes have been compromised. We are reaching out to all 7.6 million impacted customers and have reset their passcodes. In addition, we will be communicating with current and former account holders with compromised sensitive personal information. Our internal teams are working with external cybersecurity experts to analyze the situation. To the best of our knowledge, the compromised data appears to be from 2019 or earlier and does not contain personal financial information or call history. We encourage customers to remain vigilant by monitoring account activity and credit reports.”

It’s important to note that a passcode is a four-digit PIN, not a password, providing an extra layer of security for customer accounts. If you have been impacted by this data leak, AT&T has already reset your passcode but still recommends changing it if you’ve been using the same one for over a year.

This incident marks the first time AT&T has acknowledged leaked customer data, although it remains unclear whether it originated from its systems or a third-party vendor. Stay informed and take proactive steps to protect your personal information in light of this event.
