Last year, Google gave its Weather app a fresh look to match the release of the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The new design featured a sleek interface and updated weather icons, but the widget still sported the old icons. However, that’s about to change.
According to the Google News channel on Telegram, Google is now rolling out support for the new weather icons on both the redesigned Weather app and the At a Glance widget. This update isn’t limited to Pixel devices, so users of other devices can also expect to see these changes.
The new set of weather icons has a more 3D aesthetic compared to the previous flat design. This means that your home screen’s weather widget will soon have a fresh, updated look once this change reaches your device.
Google’s renewed focus on widgets is part of its “Material You” initiative. With Apple’s introduction of home screen widgets in iOS 14, users on both iPhones and Android devices have been eager to customize their home screens for a cohesive look throughout their UI.
Looking ahead, users can anticipate further widget-related improvements from Google. There are also rumors about potential new widgets with the release of Android 15, along with an option to replace or remove the At a Glance widget from Pixel phones’ home screens. Stay tuned for more updates!
