Unlock the Magic: Blackmagic’s Top Camera App Now Available for Select Android Devices

Blackmagic, a renowned name in high-quality digital film cameras and DaVinci Resolve video editing software, has recently launched a free camera app for Android devices. This new app aims to bring professional-level video controls to smartphones, catering to experienced videographers who seek advanced features and tools.

Here are some key highlights of the Blackmagic Camera app for Android:

– Features include histograms, audio meters, focus assist, frame guides, and a customizable viewfinder.
– Users can record videos in up to 8K resolution on compatible devices.
– Full control over settings such as shutter speed, ISO, white balance, tint, and 3D LUTs is available.
– The app supports all camera sensors on a phone and allows recording in the H.265 codec with Rec.709 or HLG10 color space.
– Integration with DaVinci Resolve enables users to upload footage directly to a specific project.

While the Blackmagic Camera app offers a wide range of professional shooting options, it’s essential to note that the app’s capabilities are dependent on the physical camera hardware of your phone. The maximum recording resolution achievable will be limited by your phone’s camera sensors.

Although some advanced controls may already exist in the Pro mode of certain Android phones like Samsung and Xiaomi models, Pixel users will find the Blackmagic Camera app to be a significant upgrade from the standard Pixel Camera app.

Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, expressed excitement about this launch:

“The Blackmagic Camera app for iPhone has been incredibly popular since its release last year. We are thrilled to provide customers with Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phones with similar controls for shooting digital film as our professional cameras.”

The current version of the Blackmagic Camera app is compatible with a limited selection of recent flagship smartphones but is expected to receive updates in the future to expand compatibility with more devices. Some confirmed compatible devices include:

– Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
– Google Pixel 8 Pro

Unfortunately, some devices like Google Pixel Fold, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, OnePlus Open, and OnePlus 12 are not yet supported. However, it is hoped that support for these devices will be added soon due to their capable specifications.

Overall, the Blackmagic Camera app for Android opens up new possibilities for smartphone videography enthusiasts looking to elevate their filming experience with advanced controls and features.
