Apple’s Latest Move: Setting Boundaries for Retro Gaming on iPhones with MS-DOS Compatibility!

Apple’s strict rules for developers aiming to publish on the App Store have caused some controversy, especially in the case of iOS retro emulators. Despite this, Apple has allowed certain retro gaming console experiences on iPhones through iOS emulators, not just due to pressure from the European Commission but also outside of the EU.

One notable emulator gaining attention is Delta, which enables users to play classic games from consoles like Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64. For European iPhone users, Delta can be found on the AltStore platform or as a standalone emulator.

However, some developers have faced challenges with Apple’s policies regarding retro emulators. Apps like iDOS3 and UTM SE, which emulate DOS PC and other Windows OS systems, have been rejected by Apple for not aligning with their guidelines. Despite complaints from developers about arbitrary decisions and lack of clear feedback for app rejections, Apple remains firm in enforcing its rules.

The debate over old games versus old operating systems continues as developers try to navigate Apple’s restrictions. While DOS PC emulation may not be a top priority for iPhone users, it raises questions about Apple’s stance on retro technology and potential antitrust implications.

As the tech world evolves and regulations shift, it will be interesting to see how Apple adapts its policies to meet the demands of both developers and consumers. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing issue.
