Samsung is gearing up to release its latest software update, One UI 7, which is rumored to kick off its registration phase on July 29. While there were speculations about a Dynamic Island-like feature similar to Apple’s, recent leaks suggest otherwise.
According to tipster Chun Bhai, who claimed to have early access to One UI 7, there were talks about Samsung’s version of Dynamic Island and Live Activities. However, Samsung-focused tipster Ice Universe debunked these claims by clarifying that what Chun Bhai saw was actually an “ellipse icon” in the status bar designed for notifications and not a full-fledged Dynamic Island.
The ellipse icon is not entirely new as it was already present in One UI 6 for ongoing call information. Nonetheless, One UI 7 is expected to enhance this icon’s functionality by displaying time-related data for various apps, offering a more streamlined user experience.
While the extent of app support for the new ellipse icon remains uncertain, it may be limited to Samsung’s own apps. Moreover, users may only be able to launch the relevant app upon tapping on the icon. Although it may not be the anticipated Dynamic Island feature, the improved ellipse icon in One UI 7 could still bring value by providing a visually appealing way to view time-related notifications and facilitating quick access to essential apps.
As we await the official release of One UI 7 and explore its new features and enhancements, it’s clear that Samsung is committed to enhancing the mobile experience for its users. Stay tuned for more details as the registration phase approaches. In the meantime, rest assured that while Apple may have its dynamic island feature, Samsung’s One UI 7 will offer a unique and innovative user interface of its own.
