We are thrilled to announce that the Salmon Arm Arena, previously known as Shaw Centre, will now be named Rogers Rink. This change follows Rogers’ acquisition of Shaw last year, marking a new chapter for our beloved arena.
David Knight, Operations Manager for the Shuswap Recreation Society, shared the exciting news in a memo to Mayor Harrison and the Council of the City of Salmon Arm. He explained that the decision to rename the arena was made in light of Rogers’ ownership and their request to align with their branding.
The agreement with Shaw Cablesystems for naming rights was extended until August 2035 back in September 2018. Shaw’s contribution of $787,486 has been invaluable to the Society and City, primarily for facility signage recognition.
After completing their acquisition of Shaw last April, Rogers proposed the name ‘Rogers Rink’ to reflect their ownership structure. Both the Shuswap Recreation Society and Rogers fully support this new name for our arena.
The renaming process will be overseen by Rogers and is set to take place soon. We are grateful for their commitment to our community and look forward to seeing ‘Rogers Rink’ proudly displayed at our arena.
Salmon Arm’s arena boasts two NHL-sized rinks and has been a hub for exciting events like hosting a stop for the Rogers Hometown Hockey tour in 2020. We are excited about this new chapter for our arena and can’t wait to welcome you all to Rogers Rink!
