Honor, the Chinese tech company that emerged as an independent brand in 2020 following US sanctions on Huawei, is making waves in the industry. At this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Honor unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Honor Magic 6 Pro. But that’s not all – Honor has exciting plans for the future!
In a recent interview with CNBC (via Android Headlines), Honor’s CEO George Zhao revealed that the company is gearing up to launch a foldable flip phone later this year. But wait, there’s more! Honor is also venturing into wearable tech with its first-ever smart ring in development.
During the interview at MWC, George Zhao shared: “This year, we are preparing for the flip phone launch — now that we are internally in the final stage. We are very positive about foldables for the future.”
Honor’s decision to introduce a flip foldable device aligns perfectly with its strategy to compete in the premium market, going head-to-head with industry giants like Samsung and Apple. While Honor already has foldable phones like the Honor Magic V2 in its lineup, this new flip phone represents a shift from its current book-style folding devices.
By entering the flip foldable market, Honor will not only compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series but also challenge the Galaxy Z Flip series. The company’s CEO hinted at incorporating AI features into this upcoming foldable device to give it an edge against competitors like the anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 6.
In addition to the upcoming foldable phone, Honor is also working on launching its first smart ring. This move comes right after Samsung introduced its own Galaxy Ring. While details about the smart ring are scarce at this point, George Zhao hinted at exciting features to come.
Already known for its range of smartwatches capable of tracking health indicators, Honor’s entry into the smart ring market will further expand its wearable portfolio. This integration will allow users to seamlessly connect these devices with their health app for comprehensive health and activity data.
Keep an eye out for more updates as details about these innovative devices from Honor continue to unfold!
